Project Description:
In October 2021, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) approved the transaction technical assistance (TA 54297-002): Preparing the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Health Systems Strengthening Program to help in the preparation of the proposed Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Health Systems Strengthening Program (KPHSSP). The KPHSSP will support the Revamping Secondary Health Care program of the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (GOKP) of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province, Islamic Republic of Pakistan. The program will assist in achieving the goal of the Department of Health (DOH) of GOKP in strengthening the health system and providing quality health care services that are accessible, efficient, and equitable, especially for the poor and vulnerable. The program will support the health sector by (i) strengthening and streamlining the human resources for health management, (ii) strengthening the DOH’s capacity to deliver health services, (iii) improving governance and financing quality, (iv) transforming secondary care facilities, and (v) ensuring availability of quality medicines.
Activities performed:
- Prepared poverty, social and gender analyses in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including disaggregated analysis of the gender and social impacts and benefits of the program.
- Identified priority interventions and procedures to promote participation by, and benefits, to the poor, girls and women, and other disadvantaged groups under the program.
- Prepared the gender related actions to be included in the program action plan and the summary poverty reduction and social strategy.
- Undertook stakeholder mapping and conducting consultations with relevant stakeholders, including women and civil society organizations (such as non-governmental organizations, medical associations and community-based organizations) to improve gender mainstreaming under the program.
